Typical Tourist in Paris

Saturday 2 August
Unsurprisingly, no one in the hostel woke up early. We eventually all ended up in the living room, discussing our mutual plans. The German girls want to go shopping, but everyone else was game to hit the tourist attractions.

We hit a bakery for some coffee and pastries on the way, and headed towards Notre Dame through Jardin du Luxembourg

Yum.

We walked along the Seine towards the Louvre.

While walking through Jardin des Tuileries Anna and I saw this...

... And immediately decided this was something we needed to do. Carla and Laurel went to check out the Ferris wheel and buy a beignet, while Anna and I spent some euros on this ride. I saw the Louvre upside down at least 5 times and the Eiffel Tower for a split second while I was being whipped around. We were laughing and screaming the whole time and it was awesome. Really did a number on our hair though.

We continue up to the Champs Élysées and stopped at a supermarket to buy some lunch for a picnic. Here, Carla and Laurel decide to split off and save a picnic for later tonight.

Anna and I load up our bags with the usual: wine, cheese, meat, pâté, baguette, and chocolate for dessert.

First a photo op at the Arc de Triomphe.

To the Eiffel Tower and our picnic destination!

We were SO excited for our picnic. It was delicious and the people watching was spectacular.

JUST as we're about to dig into dessert I say, "it's looking a bit grey. Is it supposed to rain?" so Anna checks the weather on her phone, "No not for a few more hours". No sooner had the words left her mouth, it starts pouring. We grab our stuff and run for the cover of the trees.

Grumpy because the rain ruined our picnic.

After 15 minutes we realize it's not going to quit and decide to run for the metro. We were completely soaked by the time we got back to the safety of the hostel. In fact, when I FaceTimed Mom directly after we arrived, she said "what have you been doing? you look a mess".

We fight the rainy blues with a drinking game and quality time hanging out.
